According<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/technology\/comments\/orw9i\/filesonic_gone_now_too_all_sharing_functionality\/c3jk52s\">to users on Reddit<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000\">, it is believed that many accounts and files were deleted today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\">It is thought that this measure has been put in place in response to the wider crackdown on file-sharing sites by U.S. authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\">U.S. and New Zealand authorities shut down one of the Web\u2019s most popular online properties, Megaupload, last week. Its founders and<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-501366_162-57362142\/one-of-worlds-largest-file-sharing-sites-megaupload.com-shut-down-company-workers-indicted\/\">three other employees were arrested and detained.<\/a> <span style=\"color:#000000\">They are awaiting extradition to the United States to face copyright infringement and money laundering charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\">Within a few hours of the news breaking,<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-501465_162-57362764-501465\/megaupload-anonymous-hacker-retaliation-nobody-wins\/\">hacktivist collective Anonymous retaliated<\/a> <span style=\"color:#000000\">by attacking the websites of the RIAA, the MPAA, the FBI, and the U.S. Justice Department by way of denial-of-service attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\">Late last week, Uploaded.to blocked all U.S. visitors from accessing its site as part of efforts to distance itself from U.S. jurisdiction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\">Another popular file-sharing service, RapidShare, said in an interview with Ars Technica that<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/news\/2012\/01\/rapidshare-not-concerned-about-megaupload-takedown.ars\">it was \u201cnot concerned\u201d<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000\">, adding that, \u201cfile hosting itself is a legitimate business\u201d.
