Realizing that Geraldo Rivera does not speak on behalf of the Republican party\u2026Fox News does\u2026and I would venture to say that many Fox News viewers i.e. Republican voters really do believe the nonsense that Geraldo Rivera is espousing. Yes \u2013 there are some nuances behind how people perceive a person based off of how they dress \u2026sure. But to say that \u201cthe hoodie is as much responsible\u201d is like saying that women deserve to get raped for showing cleavage or dressing provocatively. Oops. Although \u2013 I guess some Republicans already believe that too.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have a different take, Brian, on that. I believe that George Zimmerman, the overzealous neighborhood watch captain should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law and if he is criminally liable, he should be prosecuted. But I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin\u2019s death as George Zimmerman was.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When you see a kid walking down the street, particularly a dark skinned kid like my son Cruz who I constantly yelled at when he was going out wearing a damn hoodie or those pants around his ankles. Take that hood off. People look at you and what\u2019s the instant identification? What\u2019s the instant association? Its crime scene surveillance tapes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every time you see someone stick up a 7-Eleven, the kid is wearing a hoodie. Every time you see a mugging on a surveillance camera or get the old lady in the alcove, it\u2019s the kid with a hoodie. You have to recognize that this whole stylizing yourself as a gangsta \u2014 you\u2019re going to be a gangsta wannabe? Well, people are going to perceive you as a menace. That\u2019s what happens. It is an instant reflexive action.\u201d<\/span>
