{"id":11746,"date":"2012-04-03T06:24:51","date_gmt":"2012-04-03T10:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theredphoenixapl.org\/?p=11746"},"modified":"2026-04-22T09:38:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T14:38:02","slug":"911-call-trayvon-martin-cried-for-help-before-gunshot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redphoenix.news\/es\/2012\/04\/911-call-trayvon-martin-cried-for-help-before-gunshot\/","title":{"rendered":"Llamada al 911: Trayvon Martin pidi\u00f3 ayuda a gritos antes del disparo."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redphoenixnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/trayvon_martin_zimmerman.jpg\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11748\" title=\"trayvon_martin_zimmerman\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redphoenixnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/trayvon_martin_zimmerman.jpg?resize=490%2C297\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"297\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">After repeated calls for the release of the 911 audio in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, the Sanford police department finally released the audio on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Trayvon\u2019s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton of Miami Gardens, arrived at Sanford City Hall to hear the tapes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Martin broke down and \u201ccried like a baby,\u201d when he heard his son pleading for his life on one of the audio tapes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>You hear a shot, a clear shot, then you hear a 17-year-old boy begging for his life<\/em>,\u201d said Natalie Jackson, one of the family\u2019s attorneys. \u201cThen you hear a second shot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The first shot can be heard in the distance \u2014 \u201ca warning shot,\u201d said attorney Ben Crump. The second shot is much closer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>It is shocking when you hear these 911 tapes<\/em>,\u201d said Crump. \u201c<em>It was far worse than they thought it was going to be<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">In all, the Sanford police released 8 audio tapes \u2014 7 calls placed to 911 by nervous witnesses, and one call from the shooter, 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who claimed he killed Trayvon in self-defense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>This is an insult to this family<\/em>,\u201d attorney Natalie Jackson said. \u201c<em>This was not self-defense, this was not manslaughter, this was murder<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>How can you claim self-defense and you are the aggressor?<\/em>,\u201d said Trayvon\u2019s distraught father.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Tracy Martin had taken Trayvon to visit a friend who lived in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. Trayvon later left the house to walk to a nearby convenience store to buy a bag of Skittles and a can of ice tea. On his way back, he caught the attention of Zimmerman, who was cruising the neighborhood in his SUV.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Zimmerman called 911 to report a \u201csuspicious person\u201d inside The Retreat at Twin Lakes gated community, about 20 miles north of Orlando.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/videogallery\/68871920\/News\/George-Zimmerman-911-call-reporting-Trayvon-Martin\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#000000;\">CLICK to listen to the 911 call<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>This guy looks like he\u2019s up to no good, or he\u2019s on drugs or something<\/em>,\u201d Zimmerman tells the 911 operator. \u201c<em>It\u2019s raining and he\u2019s just walking around looking at houses<\/em>,\u201d says Zimmerman. The call was one of 46 calls to 911 made by Zimmerman in the past to report suspicious persons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>He\u2019s just staring, looking at all the houses. Now he\u2019s coming toward me. He\u2019s got his hand in his waistband. Something\u2019s wrong with him<\/em>,\u201d says Zimmerman in a calm voice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The 911 dispatcher asked Zimmerman to describe the man\u2019s race and age. \u201c<em>He\u2019s a black male\u2026 late teens<\/em>,\u201d Zimmerman responds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Zimmerman described Martin as wearing a hoodie and sweatpants or jeans. He continues: \u201c<em>He\u2019s coming to check me out. He\u2019s got something in his hands. I don\u2019t know what his deal is. Can we get an officer over here?<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>These assholes always get away<\/em>,\u201d he tells the 911 operator. \u201c<em>Shit, he\u2019s running<\/em>,\u201d Zimmerman says calmly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The dispatcher told Zimmerman that he was sending an officer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#000000;\">[A car door slams shut]<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>Are you following him?<\/em>\u201d the dispatcher asks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>Yeah<\/em>,\u201d Zimmerman responds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>Okay. We don\u2019t need you to do that,<\/em>\u201d the dispatcher says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>Okay<\/em>,\u201d Zimmerman replies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">But Zimmerman followed Trayvon anyway. Moments later, a rash of emergency calls placed to 911 from inside the community described a scuffle, cries for help and a gunshot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">But until Friday, Trayvon\u2019s parents and the public were told that the person crying for help was the 200 pound Zimmerman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">In one of the audio tapes, a frightened voice cries out for help and pleading \u201cNo! No!\u201d and then wailing, before a gunshot ends the cries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Mary Cutcher, 31, whose back door was steps away from where Trayvon was shot, said she heard a boy crying, then a gunshot, then the crying stopped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c<em>I heard someone crying \u2013 not boo-hoo crying, but scared or terrified or hurt maybe<\/em>,\u201d said Cutcher. \u201c<em>To me, it was a child.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Cutcher and her roommate said they rushed outside to see Zimmerman standing over Trayvon, with one foot on either side of Trayvon\u2019s body. In one hand, Zimmerman held a .9 mm handgun, his other hand was on Trayvon, who was face down in the grass.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Cutcher\u2019s roommate said she asked Zimmerman 3 times what was going on. He told her to call 911. Then he raised both hands over his head in the universal sign of \u2018Oh man, I did something bad.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Police arrived on the scene in minutes. Trayvon\u2019s body was bagged and taken to the morgue, where he was tagged as a John Doe. No one contacted Trayvon\u2019s family even though police had Trayvon\u2019s cell phone in their possession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Zimmerman was taken in for questioning and released. No charges were filed. Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee said Zimmerman was released because he had a \u201csqueaky clean\u201d record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">But if Lee had actually checked that record, he would have known that Zimmerman was arrested in 2005 for battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. Strangely, all charges against Zimmerman were dropped in that case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">On Feb. 27 \u2014 the day after Trayvon was murdered \u2014 Tracy Martin called 911 to report his son missing. Police asked him to describe his son. Later, police showed up at the house where Martin was staying. They brought with them a photograph of Trayvon lying in the morgue.
