{"id":13154,"date":"2012-07-17T13:31:47","date_gmt":"2012-07-17T17:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theredphoenixapl.org\/?p=13154"},"modified":"2012-07-17T13:31:47","modified_gmt":"2012-07-17T17:31:47","slug":"new-sketch-released-in-shooting-of-teen-lesbian-couple-in-south-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redphoenix.news\/es\/2012\/07\/new-sketch-released-in-shooting-of-teen-lesbian-couple-in-south-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"New sketch released in shooting of teen lesbian couple in south Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_13155\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13155\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redphoenixnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/image.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13155\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redphoenixnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/image.jpg?resize=490%2C327\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"327\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13155\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Texas Rangers released a refined artist sketch of the suspect in the shootings of Mollie Olgin and Mary Kristene Chapa on June 22 in a park in Portland, Texas.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Texas rangers have released a new sketch of the man suspected of shooting a young woman in the head and murdering her girlfriend while the two were on a date in a public park last month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\"> Mary Kristene Chapa, 18, who survived the attack, used sign language and writing to communicate with a forensic sketch artist to update the drawing of the man she thinks shot her and her girlfriend, Mollie Olgin, 19, on June 22.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Chapa regained consciousness just days after the attack and was able to provide an initial description of her attacker on July 4, according to local station KIII television.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\"> A second drawing was released on Saturday, after Chapa said she wanted to revisit it with the artist, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\"> &#8220;It is unusual to go back and refine a suspect drawing,&#8221; Portland Police Chief Randy Wright told KIII. &#8220;But in this case, our eyewitness sustained a brain injury that initially affected her ability to communicate effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">&#8220;The good news is she has made exceptional progress. Her sight and speech have improved and she can now interact with the artist much better,&#8221; Wright said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">On the night they were shot, Chapa, of Sinton, and Olgin, a student Texas A&amp;M Corpus Christi, had plans to go to a movie but stopped off at Violet Andrews Park in Portland, a small Gulf Coast town near Corpus Christi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">A hiker found their bodies the next morning in some marshy grasses beneath a scenic overlook.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13156\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13156\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13156\" title=\"image (1)\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redphoenixnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/image-1.jpg?resize=490%2C279\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"279\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13156\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Mary Kristene Chapa, left, kisses Mollie Olgin<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Olgin was dead.
