James B. Taylor<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n By<\/span>\u00a0Josh Israel<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n A new report by<\/span>\u00a0Mother Jones<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0reveals that James B. Taylor, a prominent conservative movement leader and board member for the Young America\u2019s Foundation, once served as vice president of a white supremacist group.<\/span><\/p>\n Taylor\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0bio<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0notes that he is \u201cchairman of World Youth Crusade [for Freedom] and former executive director and chief of staff of Young America\u2019s Foundation.\u201d It also includes that he was once public relations director for the anti-labor union National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation. It does not mention, however, that he also served as vice president of the\u00a0<\/span>National Policy Institute<\/span><\/a><\/span>, a tax-exempt group than aims to be the lobby for \u201cWhite Americans\u2014our country\u2019s historic majority and founding population\u2014the people that bears the unique heritage of Europe, Christianity, cultural excellence, and the scientific awakening.\u201d During Taylor\u2019s time with the group, the white-nationalist\u00a0<\/span>foundation<\/span><\/a><\/span>, founded in 2005 by right-wing publisher William Regnery,<\/span>\u00a0published a report arguing<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0that \u201cintegration and the civil rights movement led directly to the destruction of great cities; and to millions of whites suffering terrible injustices, including assault, robbery, rape and murder, and losing everything they had through the ensuing destruction of their neighborhoods and their property values.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Taylor did not respond to Mother Jones\u2019 request for comment, but when asked about his connection to the National Policy Institute by a<\/span>\u00a0local newspaper<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0last August, defended the mission of the group, saying: \u201cYou\u2019ve got the NAACP and B\u2019nai B\u2019rith. Why not something for white people?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The Young America Foundation, on whose nine-member<\/span>\u00a0board of directors<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0Taylor sits, is a powerful force in the conservative movement. The group runs the Ronald Reagan ranch in Santa Barbara, CA, helped create the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), and operates a center aimed at teaching journalists \u201cthe values of balanced, responsible, and accurate reporting.\u201d Twice-defeated former Sen.<\/span>\u00a0George Allen<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R-VA) and former Attorney General\u00a0<\/span>Edwin Meese<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R) are both affiliated with the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n As chairman of the World Youth Crusade for Freedom, which claims to \u201cpromote education and research in public policy and understanding by future world leaders,\u201d Taylor received\u00a0<\/span>$18,000<\/a>\u00a0in salary in 2010, out of the $23,191 the group took in in total revenue. In 2010, he was paid<\/span>\u00a0$22,000<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0out of the group\u2019s $31,129 raised.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Taylor was a<\/span>\u00a02012 contributor<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>to Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA). Barletta has come under fire for\u00a0<\/span>racist comments of his own<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u2014 announcing this week that he will oppose immigration reform because Latinos are uneducated leeches who will never vote Republican anyway. The donation record identifies Taylor\u2019s current occupation as \u201ceditor\u201d for Tea Party Express, a key force in the Tea Party movement.<\/span><\/p>\n
