On the company\u2019s dime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">America&#8217;s 100 best-paid corporate chiefs got an<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/04\/07\/business\/executive-pay-shows-modest-2012-gain-but-oh-those-perks.html?pagewanted=1&amp;ref=business\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">18.7 percent boost in their perks packages<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">, according to a survey of executive pay performed by Equilar for The New York Times. Those perks, which range from access to a private jet to company-sponsored security details to life insurance policies, were worth $320,635 on average last year, according to an Equilar analysis of the survey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/04\/07\/business\/executive-pay-shows-modest-2012-gain-but-oh-those-perks.html?pagewanted=1&amp;ref=business\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong><big>(Click over to the NYT to read more about the good life of a CEO)<\/big><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The rise in perks comes as companies continue to face pressure to<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/regwatch\/pending-regs\/287749-sen-menendez-calls-for-action-on-executive-pay-disclosure-rule-\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">rein in executive pay<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#000000;\">with ordinary Americans struggling in the wake of the financial crisis. And though lawmakers and investors have<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB123870914466184183.html\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">railed against the giant perks packages<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#000000;\">&#8212; most famously when the CEOs of the Detroit Three automakers flew to Washington in private jets to ask for government aid in 2008 &#8212; the generous perks have proliferated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">In addition, CEO pay has gone up, despite rules like the Dodd Frank financial reform bill\u2019s \u201cSay on Pay\u201d provision, which gives shareholders a<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sec.gov\/news\/press\/2011\/2011-25.htm\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">non-binding say on executive pay<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">. CEO pay<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/28\/ceo-pay_n_2971841.html\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">rose by 8 percent on average last year<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">, the biggest boost in nearly two years, according to a recent analysis from USA Today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">That\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/28\/ceo-pay_n_2971841.html\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">nearly three times the rate of ordinary workers<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">, whose pay rose by about 2.7 percent last year, according to NBC News.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Still, there are some companies willing to curb their executives&#8217; perks. Struggling Chesapeake Energy cut CEO Aubrey McClendon\u2019s use of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/01\/08\/aubrey-mcclendon-bonus_n_2431056.html\" target=\"_hplink\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">the company\u2019s private jet in half<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color:#000000;\">earlier this year, after controversy erupted over McCLendon\u2019s dealings with a company doing business with Chesapeake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/04\/07\/ceo-perks-packages_n_3033696.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Fuente<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CEOs are living the good life.
