Editor’s Comment<\/strong>: The corporate media in the United States and Europe are fond of reporting “shortages” of essential goods available to the public in Venezuela. It seems that\u00a0one of their favorite items for such reporting is bathroom tissue with the\u00a0expectation that this will evoke\u00a0some sort of\u00a0an infantile “embarrassment” factor among their readers and TV audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

The US-backed opposition\u00a0in Venezuela\u00a0either\u00a0hoards or\u00a0destroys many tons of products in order to keep them off the\u00a0retail market thus creating the perception of “shortages” and inadequate production with\u00a0a socialist\u00a0government in power. The goods that are hoarded and destroyed are almost always items under price controls, thus denying affordable purchases by people with lower incomes. These forms of sabotage are done by the private manufacturers, private\u00a0food processing plants, private distributors\u00a0and by the private supermarkets themselves. President\u00a0Maduro’s success\u00a0in combatting sabotate\u00a0is largely due to citizens reporting incidents\u00a0to the\u00a0various levels of government organized for this purpose\u00a0as noted at the end of the article. This is known as\u00a0Gobierno de Calle<\/em>\u00a0(Government in the Street), the second phase of\u00a0President Maduro’s program to defeat the US-backed attack on the Venezuelan economy, introduced\u00a0last month.<\/span><\/p>\n

Monday, October 21, 2013 –\u00a0<\/strong>Over 3800 rolls of\u00a0bathroom tissue, 440 litres\u00a0of\u00a0powdered milk\u00a0and 1560 litres of\u00a0long-life liquid milk\u00a0were taken by\u00a0order of the Public Prosecutor for being allegedly hidden in a warehouse of the\u00a0Don Biagio Mini Market and Super Express, located in Maracaibo, Zulia state.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was determined that the products they were absent from the shelves in spite of being stored in the warehouse, by restricting consumer\u00a0access to these foods.<\/span><\/p>\n

The establishment where the\u00a0goods were found was not identified by\u00a0name or RIF (commercial registration), however, the property serves as a warehouse of goods and food from the store aforementioned.<\/span><\/p>\n

These offenses\u00a0are being stopped\u00a0via reports to\u00a0the legal representative of the trade and the\u00a0Public Prosecutor.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the goods seized shall be put up for sale at fair prices in the markets\u00a0Fundaci\u00f3n Mercados de Zulia (Fundamercado),\u00a0<\/em>the organization\u00a0in Zula that\u00a0facilitates the marketing of products directly to the people.<\/span><\/p>\n

These actions were carried out by the audit staff of the SuperintendenciaNacional de Costos y Precios (Sundecop)<\/em>\u00a0y\u00a0El Instituto para la Defensa de las Personas en el Acceso a los Bienes y Servicios (Indepabis)<\/em>\u00a0as part of the actions undertaken by the National Government for the fight against shortages and hoarding.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the last few weeks, the upper body to the\u00a0\u00d3rgano Superior para la Defensa Popular de la Econom\u00eda<\/em>\u00a0(Defense of the People’s Economy)\u00a0has\u00a0referred more than 25 people to the Attorney General’s office\u00a0for engaging in wrongful acts that infringe on the sovereignty and food security of Venezuela.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0prosecutor for Indepabis (consumer protection agency) stated, “We will give continuity to due process and the representation\u00a0and the\u00a0right of\u00a0defense to\u00a0the representatives of the establishment.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This\u00a0inspection (in Zulia) was attended by the National Guard and prosecutors of the Bolivarian Seniat (customs and tax service), in addition to the participation of Decandido, the Bolivarian Trade Union of Supermarket Workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are involved with the supervisory bodies, we support their actions, we carried out training and intelligence work to detect establishments such as these, where the goods are heartlessly located,” said Gustavo Chains, representative of the union.<\/span><\/p>\n

The complaints by users is the most important information that the agencies as Sundecop, Seniat and Indepabis, and others noted.<\/span><\/p>\n
