Mass action at the White House<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

This Saturday, July 9, there will be a mass protest at the White House in Washington, D.C. to demand: Stop Bombing Libya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Buses, vans, carpools and more are coming to D.C. from cities and towns across the East Coast and the Midwest. It will be the most important action agains the U.S.\/NATO war on Libya yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

The July 9 protest is the next step of opposition following the hugely successful Cynthia McKinney Eyewitness Libya nationwide speaking tour.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although D.C. is thousands of miles from Los Angeles, you can support this anti-war initiative and help send organizers and volunteers to participate in this event.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another war for oil<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This is an illegal war. The United States and other NATO powers are dropping massive bombs and missiles in an effort to carry out regime change in the country that possesses the largest oil reserves in Africa and the ninth largest in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

The people of the United States oppose the bombing of Libya by a 2-to-1 margin. But we must act now to show this opposition<\/span><\/p>\n

At the moment, the government tells us the country is so broke that tens of thousands of teachers and nurses have to be fired, yet there is again limitless funds for another war.<\/span><\/p>\n

The civil war that commenced in February in Libya provided a perfect pretext for the United States, Britain and France to use overwhelming military power to overthrow the government. Their goal is not more democracy and freedom, or to \u201cprotect civilians.\u201d These powers have predatory commercial and military interests in the region that contains two thirds of the world\u2019s known oil reserves.<\/span><\/p>\n

Humanitarian intervention is just an empty slogan masking the imperial character of the war.<\/span><\/p>\n

Civilians are being killed by the U.S.\/NATO bombing. The country\u2019s infrastructure is being destroyed and will undoubtedly be source of lucrative reconstruction contracts for Halliburton, Exxon\/Mobil, and other western corporations and banks.<\/span><\/p>\n
