This Monday night, in Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, members of the Popular Revolutionary Front (FPR) were victims of an armed attack. As a result, one comrade has been killed and two are in critical condition.
We demand justice for our comrade, Juan José Cruz Padilla, militant of the FPR in the township of Cuajilote San Jose del Progreso, and we hold the Mexican state and the state government responsible.
The attack was directed against our comrade, José Alberto Martínez Luna, leader of the FPR in Sierra Sur and ex-Municipal President of Miahuatlán.
As of this moment, José Alberto Martínez Luna and Jesús Sabas Reyes Jimenez, of the Miahualtan Center base community, find themselves in critical condition after receiving bullet wounds.
The attack occurs in the context of a resumption of violence and persecution against the popular and proletarian movements in Mexico, due to the so-called 4T’s efforts to guarantee the World Cup and the continuance of neoliberal policies. It suffices to observe these attacks and the campaign of criminalization against the teacher’s movement, the organization of “buscardoras” (mothers of missing children who are demanding investigations into their disappearances –Ed.), against activists, and against the student movement. Oaxaca is at the center of this process and is an example of struggle and mobilization.

Monday June 22, by night, comrades of the Revolutionary Popular Front suffered an attack in the municipality of Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz in Oaxaca: from this attack is reported the assassination of Comrade Juan José Cruz Padilla and two severely injured, Jesús Sabas and José Alberto Martínez Luna, director of the FPR (Revolutionary Popular Front) in Sierra Sur and ex-municipal president of the entity where the attempt occurred, and whom the attacked was directed against.
It is important to stress the context in which this attack was made against our comrades, a context of the clear resurgence of violence against the popular organizations – which we organize with determination and combativeness for the demands, dignity, and life of the working class and all the Mexican people – with the end of concealing the reality of the country from international scrutiny during the ongoing World Cup and attempting to continue the neoliberal policies started by the “4T” through this violence.
The FPR in the state of Oaxaca has been victim to persecution, attacks, and harassment because of its prominent revolutionary work in the state, paying off with the fall of comrades in the past, in reference particularly to the case of Tomás Martínez Pinacho, director of the FPR and father of José Alberto Martínez Luna, assassinated in a cowardly way by the government with impudence August 24, 2020.
In the face of the clear political persecution which our comrades and our organization experiences, we are making a petition and urgent call for the international solidarity of all the organizations, collectives, unions, and democratic persons of the whole world, demanding the following in all the media they can:
- Produce videos in solidarity, denouncing the political persecution and demanding the ceasing thereof;
- Elaborate communiques denouncing the events, demanding justice and punishment for the planners and executors of these events;
- Spread materials of solidarity in their websites, social media pages, and means of communication, and those which might be made to reach us by their translation and international spread; and
- Denounce the situation in public actions in which they participate.
We will be very grateful that these videos and communiqués would be published in collaboration with or tagging the following social media pages: @ujrmnacional, @fprmx, @pcm_ml, with the aim of amplifying their reach and spread.
End the political persecution, to the attempts on the life and safety of those who struggle!
